What Is Millage?

Property taxes are expressed in a value called a mill.

A mill is 1/1000th of a dollar.

The millage rate multiplies the assessed value of property by a specified millage.

For example, a home valued at $100,000, assessed at $35,000 (the 35% taxable value). At a 4 millage rate, the home owner would pay $140.00 annually (35,000 x .001) x 4 =$140.00)

Note: The Auditor's office also administers the 2 1/2 % Property Tax Reduction Law for residential and agricultural property owners. This further reduces the $140.00 to $122.50.
