What's on the Ballot in November?
A Renewal Levy that will not raise taxes.
On November 3rd, the Maryville Exempted Village School District (MEVSD) will have a Renewal Levy on the ballot. This Levy will not raise taxes.
This Renewal Levy was first put on the ballot in 1989 and the community has passed it 3 times since then (1994, 1999, 2004).
When this levy originally passed in 1989, it was for 6.56 mills. This is how the renewal will once again be on the ballot. However, due to state law, which reduces the levy rate of collection, it will be collected at only 3.02 mills. The levy is currently collected at approximately $8.00 per month for a $100,000 home. This will not change when the Renewal passes.
What does the levy mean for District Funding?
Part One
This levy originally passed in 1989 and has been renewed 3 times, all prior to the 2005 Ohio tax code change (HB66) that eliminated the tax on Tangible Personal Property representing nearly 33% of all taxable property for our district. As part of that legislation, the state will reimburse the Marysville district for some of the revenue loss ($1.3 million) caused by the change in tax code for levies being collected before the year 2005.
Therefore, if the levy fails, the state will no longer be obligated to reimburse the district for the $1.3 million even if it passes in the future.
DON'T SEND $1.3 MILLION BACK TO THE STATE!! A yes vote keeps the funds here!
Part Two
The 1989 levy yields approximately $2.6 million yearly in local tax to support operation of the Marysville Schools. The levy will not raise taxes or bring in more tax money.
If the levy fails, the district will lose $2.6 million in local funding it has had since 1989.
What happens if the Levy Fails? THE LOSS OF $3.9 MILLION DOLLARS
Part One
The district will lose $3.9 million. $2.6 million from local funding AND $1.3 million of Tangible Personal Property tax reimbursement from the state.
Part Two
The loss of $3.9 million will mean significant district-wide reductions, much like were planned if the November 2008 levy had failed. If the levy fails, the district will be taking a severe step backwards and be forced to eliminate services and programs.
We have just this one opportunity to pass this levy on November 3 before there are tax consequences. Let's not send $1.3 million back to the state.
The Cost of This Levy
Since this is a Renewal, the cost of this levy will not change when the levy passes. If you would like to see what you are currently paying, we have instructions on how to locate this information on our Figure Out Your Millage page.   |
